When people hear the words “spiritual warfare ministry,” a lot of different images and assumptions come to mind. Spiritual warfare is often misunderstood. This class introduces the biblical foundations and categories of the Deeper Walk approach to spiritual warfare — looking at Scripture, the role of Christians and demons, apologetics for warfare ministry, and guidelines for maintaining biblical balance.
Whereas much of our teaching in other courses focuses on the “how-tos” of spiritual warfare, this course looks more closely at the foundations and questions that surround this type of ministry.
Get a handle on the 4 essential categories of spiritual warfare ministry and how they form a coherent framework for engaging the spiritual battles every believer faces.
Understand the role of experience in developing theology. While the Bible is sufficient for faith and practice, it is not exhaustive. Learn how observed ministry realities shape and inform our theological understanding of spiritual warfare.
Learn the key Scriptures that guide our understanding of the relationship between Christians and demons, and the nature of demons and spiritual beings, examined carefully in their biblical context.

Spiritual warfare covers so much ground that it confuses insiders and outsiders alike. We’ll sort it into three clear categories, cosmic warfare, power encounter, and Christian freedom, and the practices each one calls for.
Every prayer minister should be able to explain the texts behind their practice. Part 1 works through the passages on the divine council, how permission is granted, and where our authority comes from.
Can a Christian be affected by demons? Part 2 walks through the passages people wrestle with most, so you can teach them clearly instead of guessing.
Most manifestations in warfare ministry trace back to the occult. Take a closer look at the core concepts, the biblical language, and the practices that help people find freedom from occult bondage.
Some of the most common questions in this ministry involve ancestry and generational patterns. We’ll look at how permission can pass down a family line, the difference between shared consequences and inherited guilt, and how far your authority actually reaches.
Where do our ideas about demons actually come from? Compare the medieval picture shaped by Milton with the intertestamental texts and archaeology behind OT Scholar Michael Heiser’s work, and sort out which worldview holds up.
In this final session, we’ll wrap up the course, pick up earlier discussions, work through any remaining questions, and discuss where to go from here.

Dan Allison lives in Eastern Iowa with his wife, Sarah. They are the proud parents of 4 amazing sons, 3 incredible daughters-in-law, and 6 fantastic grandchildren! Dan is the Founding Pastor of Crossroads Church, Peosta. Along with his wife Sarah, he currently teaches Faith Formation classes at Crossroads Church. They also lead women’s and men’s retreat weekends each fall, utilizing Deeper Walk’s content church-wide.
Dan’s role in the kingdom is “Catalyst” and the Lord has led Dan to catalyze engines that carry the gospel and healing of Jesus to others. This includes helping plant several churches in Eastern Iowa and starting multiple ministries both inside and outside the church. Dan currently serves as President of The Oak Grove Inc, a non-profit dedicated to helping people recover from the effects of childhood trauma. In addition to full-time ministry work, Dan has been serving in the Retirement Industry for 32 years. He is currently a Managing Director at Empower, the nation’s second largest retirement provider. He also manages to find time in the woods, at his farm, and on the water, harvesting some of our lands’ most delicious fish and game.

This course is for anyone who wants a solid biblical foundation for understanding spiritual warfare. Whether you’re a pastor, a lay leader, a counselor, or simply someone who wants to understand how spiritual battle relates to Christian life and ministry — this course provides the theological grounding you need.
No prior experience with spiritual warfare ministry is required.
You’ll meet live online for 2 hours each Monday over the 6-week course. In addition to the weekly class, plan for about 2-3 more hours per week to complete assignments. These include:
