Complex Trauma & Dissociation

Whether you are a seasoned Prayer Minister or newly certified with just a few hours of experience, you likely recognize the challenges involved in guiding others toward growth and healing in Christ. This comprehensive 16-week course is designed to deepen your understanding of God’s design in equipping and sustaining us as we minister to His people. It is crucial for your own growth as a caregiver and for those you serve to be adept in recognizing complex trauma and navigating the intricacies of ministering to those affected by it.

Course Overview:

Throughout the duration of this course, we will delve into various dimensions of complex trauma, ensuring you are thoroughly prepared to help individuals find healing from their past. Key topics include:

– The fundamentals of complex trauma and its definitions
– Understanding how to appropriately measure and respond to trauma
– Recognizing trauma symptoms such as derealization, depersonalization, shock, PTSD, and dissociation in those you serve
– Strategies for navigating the healing journey alongside your clients

Understanding the intricacies of complex trauma is vital because the techniques that effectively assist many individuals may yield different results for trauma survivors. You will explore a holistic approach emphasizing the full restoration of the person, equipping them with essential skills for growth and healing. You will have opportunities to present case studies from your current and past clients, ask questions, and apply your new knowledge practically in class discussions.

We will also address the risks of burnout and overwhelm that often accompany work with complex trauma survivors. You will learn how to set appropriate boundaries, distinguishing between your responsibilities and God’s role in the healing process. Additionally, an introduction to Dissociative Identity Disorder and Trauma Coping Systems will help establish a foundation for understanding more complex aspects of trauma.

Furthermore, we will analyze the phenomenon of dissociation, which affects an estimated 75% of individuals feeling “stuck” in their healing journey. These barriers often stem from unrecognized dissociation, and as you learn to identify its signs and respond appropriately, you will play a crucial role in bridging gaps within the healing community. By applying biblical principles and research-based solutions, you will be armed with the tools necessary to assist individuals on their path to breakthrough, including four steps to healing from dissociation and L.A.C.K. Skills, with practical applications discussed in class.

The focus of this 16 week course will be aimed at supporting and educating counselors, pastors, life coaches, and prayer ministers. In addition, any Community Caregivers are welcome to attend. We define Community Caregivers as: counselors, pastors, prayer ministers, social workers, school teachers, medical personnel, and first responders.
